Twin-hull stability, generous living space and a smooth ride. Catamarans are ideal for families, couples travelling together, and anyone who values comfort on the water.
Catamarans have become one of the most popular charter options in Croatia, and for good reason. Their twin-hull design provides exceptional stability — they don't heel (lean over) the way a monohull sailing yacht does, which makes them much more comfortable for people who are new to sailing or who prefer a steady platform.
The wide beam of a catamaran creates significantly more interior and deck space than a monohull of the same length. You get a large, open salon, a spacious cockpit for dining, a generous forward deck for sunbathing, and cabins that feel genuinely roomy. For families with children, or for groups of couples who want their own space, a catamaran is hard to beat.
The main advantages of a catamaran over a monohull sailing yacht are stability, space and shallow draft. Catamarans sit flatter on the water, offer more living area, and can anchor closer to shore in shallower bays — which means easier access to beaches.
The trade-off is that catamarans are generally more expensive to charter than a monohull of similar length, and some experienced sailors prefer the more engaged feel of monohull sailing. But for comfort and living space, particularly with a mixed group that includes non-sailors, a catamaran wins.
Catamarans in Croatia can be chartered with a professional crew — skipper, hostess and sometimes a chef — so you can relax and enjoy the sailing without any responsibility for handling the vessel. Crewed catamaran charter is the most popular option for groups and families.
The Croatian charter fleet includes catamarans from major manufacturers such as Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Bali, Leopard and Nautitech. Sizes typically range from about 38 to 52 feet, with 4 to 6 cabins. A 40-foot catamaran with 4 cabins comfortably accommodates a group of up to 8 guests.
Catamarans are available from all the main charter bases along the Dalmatian Coast — Trogir, Split and Dubrovnik — as well as from Pula in the north. The sheltered waters between the islands and the mainland make the Croatian Adriatic well suited to catamaran sailing, with plenty of wide bays and well-equipped marinas.
